It was 1933, the small lull between World War 1 and World War 2 and Lena Pierce, just 14 years old at the time, was giving birth to a baby girl.
Lena may have been very young, but she still loved her baby girl dearly. She was willing to sacrifice whatever it took to make sure her baby girl lived a fantastic life.
And the baby girl did live a fantastic life for about six months under the careful care of her young mother. Then one day Lena heard a knock at the door. On her front step were officials from the state of New York and they were there to take her daughter away.

Their reasoning? Lena was simply too young to be a fit mother for this daughter and the state determined that her baby would do better in a foster home. That would be the last time Lena would ever see her daughter again.
Lena was heartbroken as she missed her daughter throughout her life.
There was a lot of times I worried about her and wondered where she was.
Eva May, Lena’s daughter, was quickly adopted by another family through the state. They changed Eva’s name to Betty Morrell. Betty grew up in their home as an only child and was given all of the fantastic benefits of being an only child. However she also had to deal with the downsides, where she always felt a little bit alone her whole life. Then when she turned 21 tragedy struck!
First Betty’s adoptive mother died and then just a few short years later, her adoptive father died. Betty thought she was alone in the world.

That is until one day her aunt misspoke…
An aunt of mine had one day slipped and said my name was Eva. And I said ‘oh.’ And she said, ‘You know you were born up in Utica?’

Thus began Betty’s journey that would span decades to reunite with her birth mother. Betty was going to find her mother no matter how long it would take. She searched high and low, with just a few clues under her belt. Betty would spend 50 years searching for her birth mother, never once giving up. But as every lead ended up at a dead end, she began to lose hope.
Betty was now over 80 years old and she had found no information about her mother. She didn’t even have a connection to her mother. That is, until Betty was able to find her half-sister on Ancestry.com. Through the miracle of the modern day internet, Betty was able to find her mother again. 82 years later this mother and daughter would finally be reunited once again.
Betty couldn’t fight back the tears when she found that her lifelong search had finally ended.
There was no connection. Nothing to tie me to anybody. And so, ya know, when it came through, and she was alive, and I had been talking to her on the phone… It was like, it’s all gone! My life is complete at this point.
When the pair finally reunited at an airport, everyone around was fighting to hold back tears. Only through the power of a miracle were these two able to reunite and catch up once more on their lives. After 80 long years, this mother could once again hug her daughter!

Betty would never feel alone again either..
I’m not alone anymore. I have my mother, and I have sisters and brothers. It’s surreal, but so wonderful to be together again after all this time.
Be sure to check out the reunion down below, but have a box of tissues nearby as you’ll certainly need them for this reunion!
