A young boy stole his parents’ car and crashed it while trying to get to a store to buy a present for his sister.
The incident took place in Ontario, Canada, where a five-year-old boy hijacked his mom and dad’s car before taking it for a bumpy ride.
According to the reports, the police were called to Central Frontenac when the family’s neighbor spotted a vehicle in a hayfield near their home.
After the Ontario Provincial Police arrived at the field, they came across the car only to find the 5-year-old boy inside all on his own. As it happens, the boy didn’t get very far and luckily didn’t reach the main road after taking off from the driveway in a straight line.
“The parents were already there and so was the neighbor. What had happened is that the neighbor had seen these lights in his hay field, and called the OPP. Then he went to investigate and met his neighbors,” Const. Richard Martin of Frontenac Ontario Provincial Police said.
Martin also suggested that the incident was an accident as he confirmed that the boy didn’t suffer any injuries and that his parents aren’t facing any charges.
“Oh, this could’ve been quite dangerous. He didn’t get on to the main roadway, from the driveway he went straight into the field, but it could’ve been substantially dangerous,” he added.
“I don’t know if the boy was wearing a seatbelt or not, but he did go down a ditch and did strike a small tree.”
Following the incident, it has come to light that the boy hijacked his parents’ car because he wanted to go to the store to buy a Christmas present – a pink tractor – for his little sister.
“The OPP would like to remind parents to always be aware of their children’s whereabouts and to place their car keys where they are not accessible to children,” the police said in a warning to parents after the incident.
