55-year-old Angela Sartin-Hartung from Oklahoma was crossing the road when she was struck by a vehicle back in 2013.

In an attempt to save her life, doctors put the woman in an induced coma. While she managed to recover from her physical injures, she woke up one month later only to lose all of her memories from the last 15 years.

Not only did Angela forget everything about her husband, Jeff Hartung, but she also thought that her two kids, aged 17 and 23, were still only 2 and 8 years old.

The 55-year-old also believed that she was still married to her late husband, John, who died in 1998 shortly after the accident.

“The man I’d fallen in love with at university and married in 1985. When I heard that he’d died fifteen years earlier in 1998, the grief just hit me. Nothing was making sense,” Angela expressed as she recalled the moment she was told the truth about her late husband.

Confused by the memory loss and the events she couldn’t fully comprehend, Angela decided to trust Jeff who went on to coach her and help her recover from the accident in the months that followed.

The time they spent in the hospital also gave Jeff the opportunity to share his memories with Angela and tell her everything from how the two met to how they got engaged and where they got married.

Eventually, the pair fell in love anew and returned to their home where they continued working on their bond. In 2018, five years after the tragic accident, the couple also decided to renew their wedding vows in a touching ceremony at New York’s Central Park.

“Through it all I was given the opportunity to step up and grow. Without a doubt it’s made me a better man,” Jeff said of the emotional experience.

Angela added: “Saying my vows to this man who made me feel safe and cherished, who had never wavered, was the easiest thing in the world.”
