A daredevil mother lioness invites a pack of bloodthirsty Wild Dogs to attack her so that her cub could escape.
The thrilling moment was captured by Shalin Fernando who was on a jungle safari in the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana. She spotted a lioness and her cub encircled by a pack of nine hungry wild dogs.
As the predators closed their circle on the mum-cub pair, the lioness leaped out at a couple of the dogs inviting them to descend on her.
Now all the attention was on the mum; this was the cue for the cub to escape which he did by sneaking away and hiding in a bush.
Shalin said that they spent around an hour gazing at this beautiful lioness and her cub before moving on looking for wild dogs.
When they arrived at the scene, the hungry hoard came upon the pair and began threatening them.
The safari guide said that all of her previous cubs didn’t survive Botswana’s wild kingdom and this cub was her only hope. The wild dogs kept on attacking the pair but the mum didn’t move an inch. At last, they gave up and moved on.
The mum and the cub were safe. The lioness managed to wound one of the dogs as it was severely bleeding and limping around.
