A woman who lives in Basildon found a lizard in the box of raspberries she brought.
It is unbelievable when you try to figure out things in the supermarket yourself and end up finding such things in your grocery items. It was a gecko and was still alive while trapped inside the box.
The furious customer showed the box to the shop worker who was shocked even to know that such a dark scaled gecko was able to make its way in the store and inside the box.
Laura Johnson, who was there during this incident, said that the other customer bought it to the self-service counter and the employee wasn’t ready to touch it or was confused about what to do.
When the customer who brought the box approached Laura, she went to the supervisor and left the box with him.
Laura further said that she hopes that the person wasn’t hurt by it. It is not known how the gecko got inside the store as the place has some processes to prevent such scaly things to come inside.
The store is further investigating the matter with their suppliers to know if there was any problem from their side.
The spokesperson from the store said that they are grateful to the colleagues and customers at the store who helped in getting the gecko collected by the RSPCA.
The medium to large geckos is capable of biting a human if they are distressed and even though their bites are gentle, but it can be scary.
Later, it was known through the sources that the supermarket sources the raspberries from Spain so it highly possible that the creature was accidentally packed from there. It is imperative to check all the fruit boxes before purchasing them.
