The real-life supernatural and paranormal investigator who inspired the Conjuring films has passed away at the age of 92.
Lorraine Warren died peacefully on Thursday evening, her grandson Chris McKinnell said.
He wrote on Facebook on Friday: “Last night my grandmother, Lorraine Warren, quietly and peacefully left us to join her beloved Ed. She was happy and laughing until the very end.
“She was my angel and my hero, and she will be deeply missed. Please join us in celebrating her life and honoring her beautiful soul. Remember to treasure those you love while you can. Thank you and God bless you all.”
Lorraine and her husband Ed, who passed away in 2006, were world-renowned for their work fighting and studying the supernatural.
Their jobs also inspired director James Wan’s horror movies with titles like Dead Silence, Saw, Annabelle, The Conjuring, and the Nun being taken from their works.
The couple created the New England Society for Psychic Research and the Warren Occult Museum, which features the biggest known occult collection in the world, consisting of the relics they have obtained from studying the supernatural.
Vera Farmiga, who played Lorraine in the Conjuring films, also shared a tribute for her ‘dear friend.’
“My dear friend Lorraine Warren has passed. From a deep feeling of sorrow, a deep feeling of gratitude emerges,” she wrote on Twitter.
“I was so blessed to have known her and am honored to portray her. She lived her life in grace and cheerfulness. She wore a helmet of salvation, she dawned her sword…”
Lorraine’s fans also offered their condolences. One said: “There are few people on this earth that have a genuine gift of being able to communicate with what we believe to be the other side. Lorraine Warren was one of those people. I had the pleasure of meeting her & it will be a meeting I’ll never forget.”
Another wrote: “I’m truly saddened to hear of the passing of Lorraine Warren. You were a paranormal icon and will be remembered. You’ve helped so many people in your life time.”
