A licensed clinical social worker, Rose from Chicago works as a weight loss and diabetes prevention coach.
She’s slim and healthy now. However, this wasn’t the case with her 12 years ago when she was 26.
Rose, while interacting with media, says that stepping on the weighing scale came as a shock to her when she saw that she weighed 200 pounds! “If you are going to have an ah-ha moment, I guess that was it,” she recalls.
That shock was indeed a life-changer for Rose, as she was now determined to lose all the excess weight and get in shape as soon as possible. Now, there was no stopping her! She used to work out in the gym, eat healthier and adopted many other healthier lifestyle habits.
It took Rose a year and a half to lose 60 pounds with all the exercise and sacrifice on food. Well, if you are wondering if the target is reached, think again. Now, she had to work on maintaining the weight further. So, here’s how Rose, author of Wellth and Wanderlust blog succeeded in maintaining her weight for 12 years now.
The ’50 Percent Rule’
The ’50 Percent Rule’ states that, no matter what, she fills half her plate with veggies. Well, this certainly sounds helpful in reducing the intake of carbs and filling up the stomach with most of the good things without compromising on the tastes you love.
You can also follow the rule by making veggies half part of your meal. For instance, if you want to have pasta, instead of going for carbs dressed in sauce, have more veggies and some protein in it just as Rose compensated for her pasta cravings with some Zucchini Noodles.
Another trick that got her through was stopping to obsess over numbers. Though she measured her weight every day, it didn’t get to her nerves. She explains, “It became more about doing things that made me feel good, like listening to my body more, and less about the number on the scale driving my day-to-day choices,”
Rose stuck to doing what gave her joy and started to identify herself as a healthy person. These psychological simulations helped her and undoubtedly can help anyone looking to shed off those extra pounds.
