Former NFL star Louis Nix III has been found dead after he was reported missing on Saturday.
The 29-year-old NFL defensive lineman and Notre Dame standout was last seen at his father’s home in Jacksonville, Florida, on Tuesday.
Nix’s girlfriend, Ketarah Reed, told News4JAX that he was with a friend and was on his way back Tuesday night but he never made it home.
“The intentions were he was coming back here so we could just hang out, but he just never made it here,” Reed said.
“I texted and I was, like, ‘Are you good,’ and he never texted me back, so I start calling and then his phone was ringing, and it just completely went out.”
The mother of the former Houston Texans player also told the network that her son’s disappearance “was out of the normal” and she felt that he was in danger.
Nix’s body was then found after his silver Hyundai was pulled from a pond in Jacksonville on Saturday evening.
Officers said that Nix’s car was found just a half-mile from the gas station where he was shot during a December armed robbery.
The police department hasn’t indicated the shooting is related to the 29-year-old’s death.
“What a great talent. Such a tragic passing. #RIP” one person wrote.
“Another Teammate life gone too soon. You never know what people are going through because we have such busy lives. It sometimes take moments like this to sit back and appreciate your blessing of being able to breathe. Love ya and will miss ya buddy,” Stephon Tuitt wrote on Instagram.
