The married couple Mary and Steve Daniel had been kept away from each other ever since husband Steve, who has Alzheimer’s disease, were banned along with the rest of the patients kept in the Florida memory care center from seeing outside personnel.
The strain for their relationship grew from March till 114 days passed, in which Mary claims has been a constant struggle for her husband. Then, the care center issued a notice to recruit a part-time dishwashing job within the facility. And she acted without hesitation.

“I told them, ‘I’m gonna be the best dishwasher you’ve ever had, because I want to be here, because I need to be with him,'” she remembers fondly.point 261 |
In the usual caretaking process before the whole pandemic fiasco ever began, she would help her husband get ready for bed each night and they would watch TV together before she tucked him in.point 160 | “That was our set routine and then all of a sudden I’m gone.point 220 |
