A priest in France was shot by the husband of the woman he was having an affair with.
The unusual love triangle took place in Lyon, France, where 52-year-old Greek Orthodox Church priest Nikolaos Kakavelakis was shot outside his church by a shotgun-wielding man.
While the shooting sparked fears that it could be related to recent terror attacks in the country, it was eventually revealed that the priest was shot by his lover’s husband.
As Father Kakavelakis told the authorities after waking up from a coma, he was gunned down and left to die by his love rival who shot him while he was busy locking up the church he works at.
Prosecutor Nicolas Jacquet confirmed the allegations in a statement claiming that the shooter “turns out to be the husband of a woman who was having an affair with the victim.”
According to the reports, both the 40-year-old attacker as well as his wife have been arrested whereas an investigation into the attempted murder has been launched.
As Jacquet added, the shooter made a “full confession” following his arrest. While the man initially thought he might get away with his crime, the truth has come to light following the priest’s miraculous recovery.
Father Kakavelakis is reportedly a Greek national who has been serving as a Greek Orthodox Church priest in the city of Lyon for the last decade.
While the priest had resigned from his position last month, he was still working on the notice period at the time of the incident.
