Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin is once again reprising his iconic role as Kevin McCallister after nearly 30 years – but this time, things are a bit different.
The 38-year-old actor recreated famous scenes from the movie for a Google Assistant advert.
In contrast to the 1990 movie where Kevin had to go to great lengths to protect himself from the Wet Bandits while his parents were away, the commercial for Google AI assistant saw him manage things more simply.
Though Kevin is once again home all alone during Christmas holidays, this time Google Assistant has made his life a lot easier by allowing him to smoothly control each and everything.
The ad begins when the Home Alone star enters an empty room and asks Google the schedule for his day. In response, the digital assistant reminds him that he has the home to himself.
Kevin looks pleased and proceeds with his routine, recreating iconic moments from the original movie.
Like in the film, he shaves and runs out of aftershave, so he tells Google Assistant to add aftershave to his shopping list so he doesn’t forget to buy it.
Also, he doesn’t experience the stinging that he felt in the movie because he is all grown up now.
However, his maturity doesn’t refrain him from his mischevious acts. He jumps on his bed but as he does so, he asks Google Assistant to remind him to clean his bed sheets later.
In the film, Kevin orders pizza but avoids taking it directly from the delivery guy, fearing that he would realize there is a kid all alone there.
So, the smart boy plays movie dialogues in synchronization, telling him: ‘Keep the change, ya filthy animal.’
However, Kevin doesn’t have to do this now because Google Assistant is there to save the day for him. So, in the ad, the star interacts with the delivery guy through a home security system.
Kevin then sits down to take his dinner – macaroni, cheese and a glass of milk. But as he sits, the clock strikes nine, reminding him that it’s time to prepare the diversion.
In the movie, it wasn’t easy for Kevin but now things are a lot easier for him – thanks to Google Assistant.
The star just says, ‘Begin Operation Kevin,’ and a chain of events starts automatically – with the lights turning on, the door locking itself, the fire igniting in the fireplace, a cardboard cutout starting to move around, and a dummy perched on a toy train whizzing in the room.
All this scares off the Wet Bandits, and Kevin didn’t even have to leave his place.
