If Madonna had her way, she wants to meet with Pope Francis in order to convince him that Jesus would have supported abortion.
She said as much when Australian journalist Andrew Denton interviewed her for an episode of “Andrew Denton’s Interview.”
The 60-year-old revealed that Jesus would have been perfectly all right with abortion because it represented a “woman’s right to choose,” rather than taking an innocent life.
Speaking about a hypothetical meeting with the pope, Madonna said, “Let’s talk about Jesus’ point of view about women. Let’s talk about it,” reported The Daily Mail.
The two questions Madonna would like to ask the pope are, “What do you really think he thought of women? And don’t you think Jesus would agree that a woman has the right to choose what to do with her body?”
The pop icon is even optimistic about her chances of meeting Pope Francis, saying, “One day he might invite me. I think this one might … I think he would be open to having that conversation with me.”
Given the pope’s firm stance against abortion, that optimism may be misplaced. Just last month, Pope Francis said abortion was the equivalent of “hiring a hitman.”
During the Vatican-sponsored “Yes to Life!” conference, the Holy Father asked, “Is it licit to throw away a life to resolve a problem? Is it licit to hire a hitman to resolve a problem?”
Emphasizing that opposing abortion is not just about religion, the pope added, “This is the point. Do not blame religion for something that concerns the human. It is not lawful. Never, ever eliminate a human life or hire a hitman to solve a problem.”
Madonna is solidly anti-Trump and in January 2017 in Washington, D.C., told Women’s March attendees, “Yes I’m angry, yes I’m outraged, yes I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House but I know that this won’t change anything.”
She had even offered to provide “good” oral sex (perhaps jokingly, perhaps not) to those who would vote for then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Speaking to the crowd at Madison Square Garden, she had said, “One more thing before I introduce this genius of comedy, If you vote for Hillary Clinton, I will give you a b***job—and I am good.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Madonna opined at how “ashamed” she was to be an American. “It just really makes me feel ashamed, ashamed to be an American, ashamed to be a human being, really,” she said, after denouncing the “plight of Native Americans.”
