A horrifying video captured the moment a spinning ‘Magic Carpet’ ride went out of control.
The ride at a festival in Traverse City, Michigan was in full swing when it malfunctioned, leaving passengers and onlookers screaming in fear.
Some witnesses captured videos that show the power was cut to stop the ride after it started swaying back and forth.
Some people rushed to support the fence around the base of the moving ride in an attempt to stabilize it.
Their quick actions helped steady the ride which stayed upright until the pendulum stopped spinning.
In the background, a witness said: “You’ve gotta be kidding me. Someone is getting fired.”
Another screamed: “Holy f*** dude!”
When the ride finally came to a halt, the harness remained locked for a few minutes, according to WPBN-TV.
Riders then got off and carnival workers and fairgoers cheered while others embraced their loved ones.
Festival’s executive director Kat Paye said: “Inspections of the rides happen daily and written reports are filled out and completed on each ride every morning prior to operation.
“I am grateful for the quick response of staff and community members and very thankful that there were no injuries.”
The ride was disassembled and returned to the manufacturer to determine what caused the malfunction.
The company’s office manager, Joey Even, told the Daily News: “It was a scary situation and we’re very fortunate… all of the patrons as well as the operator and the other customers that were around the ride are all safe.”
Arnold Amusements Inc, which operates the ride, states on its website: “The Magic Carpet is yet another spectacular ride imported from England.
“Themed as a magic carpet ride, the 1001 Nachts whisks riders 50 feet in the air while never turning them upside down. As the gondola rotates downward, riders feel a free-fall sensation.”
