Hard work always pays off, one way or another.
But not the way Cara Simmons expected. Not in a million years.
Cara Simmons, 36, from Cleveland, Ohio is a single mother of three.
She worked as a maid to support her children. She often struggled to make ends meet with what little she was making. With bills to pay and 3 children to raise, she couldn’t afford a vacation.
In fact, it was her employer who attested that Cara was so hard-working she never took a day off. After some time, her body just couldn’t take the beating; stress took its toll on her that she got hospitalized numerous times.Cara’s employer company, Maid Brite, sent her to one special client’s house. It seemed just another workday for her. At her arrival, Madeline Blue came out to meet her. She told her she already cleaned the house and instead of cleaning, Cara needs to help her with other stuff in preparation for the owner’s upcoming party.
First, Madeline took Cara to the house’s busy kitchen where a veteran chef was preparing a six-course meal. Blue asked if Cara could do the food tasting for her since she was so busy. Cara awkwardly obliged.
The chef asked her what her favorite food was. “Spaghetti” Cara answered. But instead of giving her spaghetti, the chef served her a $500-lobster dish. And that was just for starters. She tasted various other extravagant dishes including a dessert with edible gold.
When the exquisite food-tasting was done, this had her full by the way; Blue asked her to answer the door. A couple of masseuses came in. Blue asked Cara if it would be okay for her if they had a little warm-up by massaging her. “I think it’s my birthday,” Simmons exclaimed as she agrees to Blue’s massage offer.
After the massage, Blue took her to a room’s wardrobe to try on a few dresses. Of course, Cara hesitated, but Blue said that if she wouldn’t, she would just have to take them out to trash. Cara just couldn’t bear the thought, so she started putting them on. They were just her size.
Simmons thought she was getting luckier by the hour.
She again went downstairs to answer the door. Delivery men went in to unload boxes from their van. She was told to unpack them. One thing got her confused though. She noticed that the boxes contained her stuff from home. The delivery man explained that it’s the house owner’s stuff. Blue confirms the delivery explaining that it belonged to her boss, Cara Simmons. Now Cara was entirely lost.
The delivery man asked her to accompany him outside to clear things up. Another confusing surprise met her. Her kids jumped out the back of the delivery van.
Then finally the big reveal, the delivery guy was Greg Benson, the host of Prank it Forward, and Madeline Blue was an accomplice of his. It was all a prank to give Cara some time off from work. While her children were in for the prank, they too wouldn’t have guessed what happened next.
There was no confusion at all. Yes, Cara Simmons owns the house. It was an old house which was fully restored and fully paid for. It was the show’s gift to her for her lifetime of hard work. “…it was the most amazing prank.” The family broke down in tears since they always wanted to have their own house.
The surprises didn’t stop there. There’s still one more. Like icing on top of a well-deserved cake, they were told they were getting an all-expenses-paid trip to Reviera Maya, Mexico, to visit the Mayan pyramids.
It was later revealed that Cara’s sister, Glo Nicholson and Cara’s boss Mary Jo teamed up to send Cara’s story to Prank it Forward. They both believed that Cara’s compassion for others despite her situation, plus her unmatched diligence in her job, makes her a perfect candidate for such a big break in life.
