A kind man has adopted a starving stray dog who sneaked into his house at night after the guy forgot to close his door.
While most people want nothing to do with stray dogs, Jack Jokine from Philadelphia couldn’t say no to Suzy the starving stray who entered his home in search of shelter.
As Jack explained, he found Suzy wet and shivering in his house on the morning after he forgot to close his front door.
“When we found Suzy it was a combination of scared and confused. We had no idea how she got here and worried someone was in our house. She was scared and shaking from being wet and cold,” he explained in an interview with Bored Panda.
After Jack, who just became a father, realized how the dog managed to get inside, he was happy that it was the pooch and not thieves who took notice of his welcoming home.
As for Suzy, Jack knew he needed to act quickly because the dog was visibly distressed and starved.
Following a visit to the vet, the family found out that Suzy had been suffering from multiple diseases and health complications.
“Suzy has a heart murmur, hook worn, infected paws, pad damage and atrophy in one of the legs from it being so damaged. She needs a bunch of dental work but is very underweight so we need to get her weight up and have some tests to make sure she can be put under for procedures,” Jack said.
He has also launched a Twitter thread in which he keeps concerned people updated on Suzy’s status.
After seeing that caring for Suzy might be too much for a shelter to handle, Jack decided to adopt the pooch and provide her with the resources and love she deserves.
“We decided to adopt her because she had no owner, and our first dog George has brought us so much joy, we could imagine just putting her in the system,” the man added.
“She has been great with our family, including our baby. She is very sweet and just wants to be loved. Suzy is on the mend and getting better every day. Her body is filling out and she is on antibiotics to treat some of her problems. She’s got a long road ahead but is on the way.”
Fortunately, Good Samaritans assisted Jack in paying for medical bills after Suzy’s story went viral.
“The twitter thread took a life of its own. I never expected it to turn into this but Suzy is now the internet’s dog. People have donated about $18k towards Suzy’s medical bills. We hope they aren’t that high and we can take the remaining funds to donate to a worthwhile cause,” Jack told Bored Panda.
