A man who got arrested after stealing a speaker from a store has explained to the police that he did what was necessary to help him avoid marrying his girlfriend.
The bizarre incident occurred in Shanghai, China, where Mr. Chen pleaded guilty to stealing a Bluetooth speaker from a dance studio after the police reviewed the security footage and arrested him.
What no one expected, however, was that Chen stole the speaker in order to leave a bad impression on his girlfriend who had allegedly been nagging him to marry her.
In hopes of stopping her wild desires, Chen stole the $250 speaker and got arrested on purpose. As he confessed to the officers, he was hoping his act would be severe enough to get him a break from his special one.
“Because my girlfriend wants to marry me, but I don’t want to marry her,” the young thief allegedly told the cops.
“I knew I would be caught. I actually wanted to walk away, but I was angry. My girlfriend wants to get married, but I don’t want to. I knew you would find me, though I didn’t think it would be so fast.”
When asked about why he stole a speaker, Chen said he didn’t want to steal something more expensive and cause any more problems than necessary to keep his girlfriend at bay.
While it’s not clear what happened between Chen and his girlfriend after the arrest, one thing is sure – Chen is already a married man if his partner is into bad boys.
