A man who took the life of a 9-year-old girl was beaten to death by 500 furious residents.
25-year-old Jose Guaymas, who was accused of raping and killing Abigail Riquel in northern Argentina, was filmed being kicked by angry residents while he was lying naked on the ground.
Police had been searching for Guaymas as he allegedly murdered and killed the young girl.
In an interview with Los Primeros TV, Tucuman Regional police chief Ricardo Fresneda said that at least 500 residents joined in beating the suspect, who was unconscious and naked when cops arrived at the scene.
Some of the furious people even tried to set the 25-year-old on fire while others beat him to death with machetes.
According to Perfil, an Argentine newspaper, Riquel was visiting her friend’s home for a playdate but she did not come back home.
Some witnesses said that the young girl was last seen walking with the man, who was also holding her small hand.
The young girl’s lifeless body was then found on a vacant lot about 1,000 feet from her home.
A source said to Infobae that Riquel tried her best to run away from Guaymas but he choked her to death and hit her with a large pile of hardened soil.
The 25-year-old was released from jail after serving a sentence for robbery. He reportedly attempted to take his own life by hanging himself.
His lawyer had contacted the prosecutor’s office to avoid his suicide and arrange his voluntary surrender.
A neighbor said to local news outlets: “He always threatened his mother and was always on drugs a lot. I never trusted him because he spent his life on drugs.
“I was scared that something would happen to my three-year-old daughter.”
