A bizarre winged creature caused confusion at a home in Bali, Indonesia after it was spotted crawling across the ceiling.
Hari Toae, the homeowner, saw the ‘alien-like’ tentacled creature crawling across his ceiling.
The creature had four tentacles, two wings and seemed to be moving upside down with its legs attached to the ceiling.
He said that the creature appeared to be searching for a safe place to hide as it was raining that night.
“’I will let it stay in my house, but only for the night. I don’t want it to scare my guests away,” he said. Hari also said that he couldn’t identify the creature but joked that the critter ‘looked like an alien.’
“It’s not something I’ve ever seen before. I don’t think it comes from this neighbourhood,” he added.
The answer is still unclear but it could be a part of the family moths called the Arctiinae. It also seemed to share certain characteristics with a species called Creatonotos gangis, a native to Australia and south-east Asia.
Like the bizarre creature, they also have four tentacles and wings known as scent organs. They are used for producing pheromones, a type of chemical substance to attract partners.
One internet user commented: “Its a Creatonotos Gengis Moth absolutely scary insect! Id bottle it and leg it any day of the week. Im so glad moths like that don’t exist here in the uk.”
Another said: “Clearly most people would rather watch the kardashians than David Attenborough.”
A third wrote: “I’ve had adult preying mantis’, big bush crickets, rhino beetles, cicadas and all sorts paying a visit where I live. Don’t forget, it’s their planet too.”
