Janusz Goraj had been blind for more than 20 years but he got his sight back after a car hit him.
He now works as a security guard at the hospital where he received treatment.
Goraj from Gorzow Wielkopolski lost his sight when he was young after he had a severe allergic reaction. His left eye was completely blind in his left eye while his right eye only recognized lights and shapes.
But when he was struck by a car in 2018, he said he miraculously regained his sight.
“I fell on the car bonnet, hit my head and then I slipped and fell on the road,” he said to reporters.
Goraj was taken to the Independent Public Provincial Hospital after the accident and he had hip surgery.
Agnieszka Wisniewska, a spokesperson for the hospital, said to reporters: “At a certain age such fractures do not heal so quickly, so he had to be hospitalised.
“At that time, the doctors weren’t concerned about his vision because of his injuries.”
But Goraj recovered quickly and doctors were shocked when he also regained his sight.
“His eyesight did improve within two weeks. We don’t quite know what caused it, maybe the mix of drugs he was getting during that time,” Ms. Wisniewska said.
It has been suggested that anticoagulant medicine combined with other drugs could’ve helped him get his sight back but that is just a theory.
Delighted Goray is now living independently while working as a security guard at the hospital where he was treated.
“We don’t know if he specifically asked for the job or if it’s just a coincidence, but he is working here with us,” Ms. Wisniewska added.
