Watch this man’s amazing floating island

A man has created an artificial island made of plastic bottles in an attempt to make use of waste and counter plastic pollution.
Richart Sowa is a British eco-architect who discovered a creative way to reuse waste and turned over 100,000 thousands of plastic bottles into a floating island.
On top of the island, the unconventional idea hamster built a self-sustaining house equipped with air con, a shower, a fridge, and several other appliances which are powered by the solar panels located on top of the roof of the house.
The revolutionist has also created a garden which allows him to grow food and remain self-sustainable.
The idea for the floating garden began when Richart realized that he can use the fact that plastic may take up to 1,000 years to decompose to his advantage.
“All the stuff that we don’t want, all that trash that we don’t really know what to do with, can actually solve the problems of the world,” the man said.
Besides the bottles that helped him ‘lift’ the island, Richart also used wooden pallets and plywood in the construction of his home. His little yet amazing island is located next to Isla Mujeres in Mexico.
Living true to his word, the eco-architect, who lives on the floating island, makes use of all the waste that he produces. He saves glass bottles, plastic bottles, tin cans, and various other plastic wastes inside bags and uses them to further lift the island.
Richart’s first project of its kind, the Spiral Island, came to life in 1998. The island, however, was smashed into bits by Hurricane Emily in 2005.
Following the destruction of his artificial island, Richart worked several years to create a bigger and better version called the Joyxee Island. Since 2008, the island had been opened for tours and Richart kept on improving it and working its efficiency.
Sadly, the island was damaged at the beginning of 2019 when a storm loosened its edges. Nevertheless, the artist plans on repairing and reopening the island this year. He was also invited to create three additional islands by an ecological group in Mexico.
