A 41-year-old man has been arrested after he robbed a bank in Jackson, Mississippi on Thursday.
Richard Jiles reportedly pulled his face mask down during the robbery, making it easier for police to identify and locate him.
According to WAPT, police said that Jiles handed a teller a threatening note and walked away with cash.
Jiles appears to be wearing a white shirt, a camouflage jacket, a lanyard around his neck, and a face mask under his chin.
The incident was caught by security cameras, with images clearly showing the robber with his mask down.
People were quick to mock the robber on social media, with one person commenting: “The ONE time in U.S. history when it’s actually okay to wear a mask in a bank and this fool here.”
Another wrote: “Almost comical not to mention dumb.. Did he also use something with his name, address and phone number for the note he gave the teller? Must have been his first bank robbery. He’ll improve as time goes by.. Wow.”
A third said: “Too stupid to hold a real job, so he has to rob a bank. Now he’s shown he’s too stupid to rob a bank.”
Someone else added: “Wait. Wait. Homie took his mask off for the robbery lmao….my percentage of stupid (people) in this country didn’t stop going up.”
Almost all banks in the US are requiring customers to wear face masks because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Paul Brenda, a risk and cybersecurity expert at the American Bankers Association, said to KABC-TV: “’We’ve never allowed people into banks with mask simply because of the security risk of having unidentified people in the bank. (But) the challenge we’ve got is that the pandemic is the larger risk right now.”
