If you’re a pet owner, then you know the joy that a beloved pet can bring. In fact, it wouldn’t be a stretch to call your pet a bona fide member of your family. But just like all family, pets eventually grow old and bring with them the many challenges that come with old age.
Even if we conceptually know that our pets will age, it’s a totally different thing to witness our furry best friend struggle with something as simple as walking across the room because the image we still hold in our head is the puppy who practically bounced around the whole place.
Kaylee is one such pooch who is well-loved in the Morris family. But at 13 years of age, she’s definitely no spring chicken. In fact, she suffers from arthritis in her back legs and that makes it difficult for her to move from room to room.
Unable to bear seeing his beloved dog struggle, devoted dog owner Steve Morris, 59, decided to make Kaylee a trolley so that she would have an easier time moving around their home in Joliet, Illinois.
Steve’s daughter Sara filmed her dad pulling Kaylee around the house as she sits contentedly in it.
Sara said: “Kaylee loves her cart.
“We pull her around and she is able to keep up and not feel left behind because of her legs.
“Walks are much easier now with her cart.
“She loves the sun and fresh air and now it’s just so nice being able to take her out without worrying we are causing her more pain.
“But no matter what, she’s always wagging her tail.”
To make sure that Kaylee could travel in comfort, Steve sanded the middle of the wood and added some memory foam and secured it with Velcro.
Sara said: “Kaylee’s spirits are always lifted no matter what comes her way.
“On my dad’s day off from work, he went into the garage and devised a plan to help her move around the house pain-free!
“She loves being near us and loves to watch us eat at the dinner table, hoping to catch some scraps.
“About a year and a half ago we noticed her walking declining and that is when we learned of her arthritis.
“It has made usually simple tasks such as standing up by herself, walking long distances, going outside into the yard to use the bathroom a challenge.
“But my family goes above and beyond to accommodate her.
“We take her into the pool every so often to get her some exercise that is low impact and causes her no pain, which she loves.”
