A man was forced to undergo surgery to remove the coin that was stuck in his nostril for more than five decades.
The 59-year-old unnamed Russian man in question was just six years old when a coin got wedged inside his nose while he was fooling around with money.
Scared to tell his “strict” mother what had happened, the little boy went on living his life to the fullest and eventually forgot about his little secret.
53 years later, the man paid a visit to the hospital where he was scanned after complaining about breathing difficulties.
After running a scan, the doctors were stunned to discover that the nasal passage blockage was in fact caused by a one-penny coin that was overgrown with rhinoliths, also known as ‘nose stones’, due to its long presence in the nasal passage.
Following the discovery, the man was placed under general anesthesia and the doctors performed endoscopic surgery to remove the lodged coin from the 59-year-old’s nostril.
“We operated on Friday and he was discharged on Monday… He has regained full nasal breathing,” Otorhinolaryngologist Elena Nepryakhina reportedly confirmed.
While the coin can no longer be used due to its degraded state and the fact that it served as a currency back in the USSR, the man is now left with a story he will definitely not forget.
