A man has demanded a taxi company to compensate him for causing his frozen veggies and ice cream to melt because the taxi ride he ordered was 11 minutes late.
In the bizarre incident, 40-year-old UK-based father, Melvin Lee, was left waiting for his taxi for 11 minutes too long, causing his baby to get ‘stressed out’ and his frozen groceries to melt.
As Lee explained, he called the taxi company after shopping at Asda in Folkestone, Kent. During the heat, however, the company allegedly kept on changing the time of pick-up while another taxi just “drove straight past him.”
Speaking to Kent Live, the father claimed that Folkestone Taxis left him, his wife, and their baby son wait for over half an hour.
“One taxi pulled up and took another couple. My baby was stressed while waiting. I would like some compensation and for them to pay for the shopping I have lost,” Mr. Lee said.
“They said 20 minutes, then an hour, they left me outside Asda losing all my ice cream because it melted.”
While the father could tolerate the melted veggies, he’s not willing to let melted ice cream pass by.
Following the incident going viral, Folkestone Taxis spokesperson said:
“All our drivers are self-employed, so they can choose their own hours. We can’t dictate what hours they work.
“Mr Lee was told the taxi would be a minimum of 20 minutes – however it was 31 minutes, not an hour. Send him round with his receipt and I’ll reimburse him myself. I did tell Mr Lee, he shops in Asda, I don’t think they really do any expensive ice cream.”
