A man with Down syndrome was taken to the hospital after he had tested positive for coronavirus.
He died on the same day he turned 30.
He died just a week later his mother lost her life to the sickness too.
It was Thomas Martins Reitz’s 30th birthday and all his friends and family had called him on a Zoom video call to wish him. Hours later, the man had lost his life to COVID-19.
The poor man wasn’t able to thank his family and friends for the wishes as he had already gone unconscious before the call started.
Because of the rules of quarantine, his family was not even allowed to be around him.
His mother Carolyn, who was 55 had passed away just a week ago of the same sickness.
The staff at the hospital had set up the video call for him where all his relatives and friends were singing the wishes to him.
A nurse who was taking care of him said she sat next to him and kept speaking to him. She said he told him a couple of stories.
He was able to hear a few and understand them.
The nurse said that Thomas’s primary caretaker was his mother. She was all around him all the time.
When she and he both were suffering, Carolyn was happy to know that none of the two will have to live without each other.
She was sure both of them would die and they won’t have to live without each other.
Carolyn knew his son would not want to live without her. It would never make him happy. This is what gave her peace.
The nurse said, “I cannot imagine how devastated Thomas must be to wake up and find out his beloved mother is gone.”
