Despite the odds, however, the senior man recovered shortly after receiving a blood transfusion involving the blood of recovered coronavirus patients.

“Considering the patient was very old and he had a relatively weak immune system, we decided to use recovered coronavirus patient’s blood plasma as the main treatment,” Dr. Cai Chen said in an interview with the local media.

As scientists believe, a blood transfusion might help Covid-19 patients by providing them with virus-fighting proteins generated by people who had already beaten the killer bug.

In theory, it is suggested that the patients can use these antibodies as if they were their own instead of waiting longer for their bodies to generate them.

“The fact that we used anti-virus blood serum to cure the centenarian is going to boost the confidence of other patients,” hospital director Zeng Li told CCTV.
