A 53-year-old has died of coronavirus six months after getting married to his partner of 25 years.
Andy Wyness fought for his life for two weeks in intensive care before dying fo coronavirus at Wishaw General Hospital on April 6.
His grieving wife Sandra has now opened up about their relationship and how they got married after being together for 25 years.
Sandra and Andy Wyness met on a blind date 25 years ago. Andy and Sandra, who have kids and grandkids, finally tied the knot last October after spending 25 years together.
Sandra said: “We were together for 25 years before we actually got married last October. Before that, we were on holiday with the grandkids and we took them to Thomas Land.”
After they came to know Fawlty Towers star Prunella Scales was suffering from Alzheimer’s, Sandra told Andy: “I said to Andy that there was something about getting to that age and getting something like that but not being married.”
Andy didn’t talk about it again and then they went on a holiday to Florida. Andy proposed to Sandra there and finally, they got married last October.
Andy worked for North Lanarkshire Council and recently went on a bowling trip to Wales.
After returning from the trip, he became ill and thought it was just a cold.
However, after his health deteriorated, he went to see a doctor. Sandra said he was tested positive for coronavirus and could never come back home.
On April 6, he passed away of coronavirus after spending two weeks at the hospital fighting for his life.
His family is left devastated after losing Andy just six months after his wedding.
But, the family has thanked the medical staff for taking care of Andy for almost two weeks.
Sandra said: “They worked so hard for nearly two weeks on him, every single day. They were so kind when I phoned and they apologized for us not being able to see him. They couldn’t have been any nicer.”
