An innocent man tragically passed away after getting stabbed while trying to protect his girlfriend from an abusive group.
26-year-old Cam Smith was a young Aussie from Langwarrin, Victoria, who lost his life defending his girlfriend near Melbourne’s Seaford train station.
According to the reports, Cam and his girlfriend were getting pizza when a group of four people, including one female and three males, approached Cam’s partner and started verbally harassing her.
After Cam stepped in to defend his girlfriend, one of the men smashed a bottle and stabbed the young man in the heart.
“He went to defend her and a bottle was broken and in that fight he was stabbed in the heart,” Cam’s heartbroken father, Mike, told 3AW’s Neil Mitchell.
“He had everything to live for, he was a go-getter, hard worker, he had a heart of gold, he would help anyone, anytime, he was just a fantastic kid.”
Following the attack, the 26-year-old died on the spot despite the paramedics’ efforts to save his life. Meanwhile, the police have launched a manhunt for the four suspects.
“We will identify these offenders, there’s no doubt about that. They’d be better off coming forward and handing themselves in because it won’t take us long to scoop them up,” Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton vowed according to 3AW.
In an update, the authorities revealed that one of the suspects, a 17-year-old teen, has been arrested in connection to the incident. As of this writing, the police are still searching for the other suspects.
Recalling the horrible moment Cam was left fighting for his life, one witness revealed how the paramedics were performing CPR “for a good 10 minutes.”
Another onlooker spoke out to the Herald Sun and revealed how the victim “was choking up blood and asking for help” after getting stabbed in the heart.
The investigation continues. Our thoughts are with Cam’s friends and family.
