Police stopped a man from Coventry for defying the lockdown after he drove 112 miles to pick up his £15 eBay order.
But that’s not the strangest thing that happened. They found his wife cuddled up in the trunk of his car.
The North West Motorway Police stopped the driver as he was on his way back from Salford, Greater Manchester, about a 112-mile journey one way, to pick up the windows he had bought online.
He did this and even brought his wife with him even though the UK is in lockdown, meaning people should refrain from all unnecessary travel in an effort to slow down the spread of COVID-19.
Upon picking up his purchase, he realized that the windows wouldn’t fit while his wife was in the car so he had her ride in the trunk on the way home.
Police stopped both of them on the M6 in Cheshire during the return trip where they discovered the wife in the trunk.
The man got a Traffice Offense Report.
The North West Motorway Police tweeted: “A driver has traveled from Coventry to Salford to collect a £15 eBay purchase of windows.
“His wife could not fit in the vehicle so she was traveling in the boot for the return journey when stopped on the M6 Cheshire. The driver was given a TOR for the offense.”
Under the restrictions currently in place, people are encouraged to stay home as much as possible, only going out for essential activities like buying groceries and medicines.
However, some people just can’t stay at home for an extended period of time.
Derbyshire Police tweeted a picture last week of traffic headed into the Peak District National Park. Apparently, people valued decent weather more than they did staying safe against coronavirus infection.
The local police force tweeted: “What a lovely day! The perfect day to drive up into the #PeakDistrict for a walk, bike ride, climb or horse ride, isn’t it? No, actually it isn’t.
“We’re seeing a lot of confusion over whether people are allowed to travel to the Peaks to undertake daily exercise while the government is asking us to stay at home. While we have this fantastic space in our county, right now is not the time to be using it.
“Daily exercise should be taken locally to your home. Under government guidance, all travel is limited to essential travel only. This is to help ensure that our emergency services aren’t put under even more pressure during this time.”
