A young man, unfortunately, drowned after his friends just recorded the incident instead of helping him get out of the water.
Jaffer Ayub had gone swimming with his friends when the tragic accident occurred.
The teen took a run before diving into the water. He swam a few meters away from the shore but when he began to loop back, he appeared to look exhausted before he could reach the land.
Jaffer was left to drown while onlookers and his friends made little attempt to save him and instead filmed the scene.
According to New Indian Express, he drowned in a quarry pond in Kalaburgi while his friends just watched and one filmed the incident.
The video, which was described by the publication as a ‘blatant and inhumane act,’ was shared on online and quickly went viral.
He can be seen trying to stay afloat but the lack of air got the better of him and he didn’t re-emerge from the water.
According to reports, a group of women were also nearby washing clothes and saw the horrifying incident.
A police officer said bystanders were likely ‘too scared to help’ Jaffer when they realized what was really happening.
“They ventured into a deep pond created by a stone quarry without knowing how to swim well,” they added. “They probably did not realise that he was drowning.”
Jaffer is the breadwinner of their family, according to the New Indian Express.
In another incident, a 2-year-old girl drowned in Tamil Nadu while her parents were watching TV. The parents were shocked to find their child unconscious in the bathroom.
They rushed the child to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
