Man With Severe Eczema Showed Amazing Transformation After Stopping The Use Of Steroid Medication

32-year-old Jonathan Rowe was only 18 when he developed eczema on his face.

His doctor then prescribed a steroid-based cream to treat his skin. Even though it fixed the problem at first, the rashes came back right away.

Jonathan frequently visited his doctor for his skin condition, which was getting worse. With every visit, he was given a stronger steroid cream. When he turned 24, his skin became out of control and his entire body was covered with thick rashes.

Whenever he stopped applying steroid creams, his skin would become worse.

Jonathan started taking oral immunosuppressants used for transplant patients and even though it did not completely clear the problem, his eczema became more manageable.

He then decided to try Protopic as he knew he could not keep taking medication forever and he discovered that long term use could result in cancer.

Protopic would burn his skin for hours then the area would be cleared. However, eczema would return after several days.

His skin got worse and worse and he wanted to find a better solution.

Last year, while researching other ways to stop using topical steroids and Protopic, he found articles about topical steroid withdrawal and believed that was what he was experiencing.

“I realised I couldn’t stay on [medication] forever and I was given an immunosuppressant cream called Protopic after seeing the skin expert at my local surgery. It was sold as a wonder cream to me as it didn’t have the same side effects as steroids, such as skin thinning,” Jonathan said.

“Over the next four years I attempted to manage my eczema with a combination of Protopic and topical steroid cream.

“Protopic would burn for around 12 hours when I applied it but then the skin cleared after. I did find the severity of my eczema just carried on getting worse and any amount of cream I applied made no difference and my skin was out of control.”

It was in 2018 when he stopped using steroid treatments, and this year, he started the no moisture therapy (NMT) to dry out the affected skin and let it create its own moisture.

NMT managed to transform his life around and he encourages others to try it out.

“For eight months I saw little to no improvement and had all of the symptoms as mentioned above, until I found the research of a Japanese doctor called Dr Sato who has been treating TSW using his ground-breaking approach of NMT,” he shared.

“I drink a maximum of one litre of water a day, no moisturiser, I limit showers to one per week for two minutes, no baths, no water after 7pm, and I eat more protein to counteract the loss of protein.

“Effectively, you’re treating TSW by completely drying out your skin.

“My skin has never been better than it is now and it does not affect me in my daily life. I never apply anything to my skin anymore, especially not moisturiser.”
