48-year-old Viktar Syarhel will be executed with a gunshot for decapitating 8-month-old Hanna.
The baby girl’s mother also faces 25 years in prison.
Syarhel indicated in a Belarus court that he would waive his right to seek clemency, which means he will be shot in the head by an executioner for murdering the child.
26-year-old Nataliya Kolb, the girl’s mother, also lost her appeal against a maximum jail sentence and now faces 25 years in jail.
A video shows the moment the murderer negatively nodded his head after a judge said: “You have the right to submit a plea for mercy to the president.”
Syarhel said that he will not seek clemency from President Lukashenko.
Klob, Syarhel and a family friend were drinking in an apartment when they killed the 8-month-old child. Her husband, 28-year-old Leonid, came home with their other children aged 6 and 4 when he saw his baby’s blood and severed head.
“He saw a scene out of the horror movies,” a neighbor said. “The ambulance doctor fainted when she came in.”
According to reports, the girl had 46 separate injuries on her body and the weapon used for killing was a kitchen knife.
Brest Regional Court ruled that the child had been beaten badly before the incident and the murder was ‘particular cruelty.’
People who are facing the death penalty are forced to kneel and they’re blindfolded. They are shot in the back of the head, a method similar to one used in Stalin times.
Over 400 men have already been executed in Belarus since it became independent in 1991.
One internet user commented: “This punishment fits the crime. But it should include women. We need it here.”
Another wrote: “I would say Belarus is doing it right.”
A third added: “Shoot the mother too. change the law to include women.”
