A man faked his own kidnapping in order to get a day off and avoid having to go to work.
The bizarre incident took place in Coolidge, Arizona, where 19-year-old Brandon Soules reportedly staged his own kidnapping in an effort to get a break from his job at The Tire Factory.
According to the reports, the police found the young man with his hands tied behind his back with his belt. Soules also had a bandanna stuck in his mouth upon his discovery.
After getting ‘rescued’ by the authorities, the factory worker insisted that he was ambushed by two men who tied and gagged him before kidnapping him. He also claimed they got rid of him in the area where he was later spotted and found by the police.
As The Coolidge Examiner reported, however, the truth came out after the authorities failed to secure any evidence of the alleged kidnapping, prompting the teen to admit he faked it all to get a free pass at work.
“He informed us that he, at first, stuffed a bandanna in his mouth and afterward he took off his own belt and bound his hands with his own belt,” Commander Mark Tercero revealed in an interview with ABC.
“[He then] laid on the ground and scooted out to the side of the road where somebody could see him and waited.”
According to the authorities, the police knew something was off with Soules’s story after reviewing surveillance footage that didn’t match with the worker’s narrative.
“Initially, the subject reported to officers that two masked men kidnapped him, hit his head (knocking him unconscious) and drove him around in a vehicle before they left him in the area he was found,” the police statement read.
“An extensive investigation was conducted by Coolidge detectives and evidence was discovered showing his story was fabricated and no kidnapping or assault occurred.”
Following the incident, Soules was arrested for making a false report to the police. He has since also been fired by his employer.
