37-year-old Andrew Ross Celaius who wore a werewolf mask while burning, shooting, bludgeoning and electrocuting his former girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter passed away in hospital after trying to kill himself.
Celaius had been put in protective custody while receiving treatment at a hospital days after he was discovered hanging inside his jail cell.
A spokesperson for the Escambia County Sherriff’s Office confirmed he succumbed to his injuries, NBC 4 reported.
It was on April 9 when he was arrested after an investigation found out he had subjected his former girlfriend’s daughter to a long list of sadistic and unimaginable acts while she slept. He also recorded it on video.
Officers who discovered the videos said the acts of torture were “the thing nightmares are made of.”
Sheriff David Morgan said: “It goes far beyond just a child being abused.
“Some of this evidence may have been shared in the cloud and shared with other people. We had a number of instances where this individual, the suspect, would use a [bb] gun to just shoot a sleeping child, for no other reason but to wake the child up and hurt the child.”
Escambia County Sheriff Chief Deputy Chip Simmons video shows the 37-year-old placing an electric dog collar on the sleeping child to shock her.
“You can see the dog collar being activated and then [hear] the shrieking and the pain the child has suffered from the result of this,” Simmons said to reporters.
There was another time when Celaius threw bottles of milk at the child. He even burned her on another occasion, said the sheriff.
His alleged accomplice, 38-year-old Eric Furnans, remained in prison after he tried to get rid of the evidence.
Furnans’ bond was set at $67,500.
