A man was left dangling 330ft in the air after the glass panels of a 330ft bridge were shattered by strong winds in China.
A horrifying photo shows the tourist clinging onto the railing after strong winds of up to 90mph blew away the bridge’s glass panels at a resort built into the Piyan Mountain in Longjing city.
The photo of the stranded man was posted to China’s social media platform Weibo where it gained over four million views.
The tourist was stuck on the damaged bridge for a short period of time, the Straits Times reported. Guided by police, tourism workers, and firefighters, he managed to get to safety.
He was then taken to a hospital where he received psychological counseling after the terrifying incident.
The photo has been posted on Twitter where it quickly went viral.
One Twitter user wrote: “This is basically one of my anxiety dreams played out in the real world.”
Another said: “High winds caused the glass to fall out???? It’s a BRIDGE..wow, major safety concerns , should not be opened at all then.”
A third added: “Absolute madness, why even attempt to cross this type of bridge in 90mph winds , you have to expect the worst however well built.”
Someone else said: “Damn good reason, never to walk on a glass bottom bridge – not that I ever needed one…..”
The resort closed for a brief period after the incident.
Mountain resorts in China are increasingly featuring glass-bottom bridges to attract people.
In Zhangjiajie city, there is a popular glass bridge that hangs 300m from the ground. It is built between two steep cliffs and measures 6m-wide and 430m long.
