The man who shares his home with the world’s biggest Burmese python has spoken out and claimed he’s shocked by the fact that the snake continues to grow and break records.

While most people resort to dogs and cats to keep them company, 31-year-old Marcus Hobbs wouldn’t trade his giant python Hexxie for anything.

As the man explained, he brought the reptile home eight years ago after purchasing it from a pet store. Now, the snake already weighs over 240 pounds and measures over 18 feet in length (and that was before it grew a lot according to Marcus).

Thanks to its genes and a healthy diet consisting of calves, goats, rabbits, and pigs, Hexxie continues to grow beyond belief.

While the IT worker claimed that the snake would never hurt him, he admitted being cautious when his children, 1 and 4, are around.

“I am very passionate about snakes and I try to help people understand them. I think people are so scared of them because they think they are going to kill them, but if people come around I can talk to them all day long about snakes to reassure them,” Gloucestershire-based father-of-two said in an interview.

“I’m friendly with a reptile specialist, and when I first got in contact with him to try and get some piglets for food he said: ‘What have you got?’ When I sent him a picture he said she was the biggest Burmese python he had ever seen, and he’s seen them in the wild.

“He said: ‘You have got to measure her for the world record.’ I measured her and she wasn’t quite there yet but she’s grown a lot since then. She could be there now. There is a possibility she’s already a record breaker, but finding out is not that easy.”

As for Marcus’ partner, Amy, she admitted growing more understanding of reptiles after seeing the love her husband has for his python. However, space still poses a major issue for the family.

“When we had our first it wasn’t too bad because we had a three-bedroom [house], but when the second one came along we needed that third bedroom,” she explained.

As for his plans for the future, Marcus said he might have Hexxie properly measured after she’s fully grown up.
