“I woke up just throwing up everywhere, and my heart was beating out of my chest going 100 miles an hour,” the teen said in an interview with WFAA.

After he was rushed to Cook Children’s Hospital, he was instantly admitted to the intensive care unit where the staff put him in medically induced coma to save his life.

For 10 days, Tryston remained hooked on an oscillatory ventilator while his condition continued to deteriorate.

“The day they intubated him was the worst day of my life. We walked into this hospital very naive about what we were dealing with,” Matt, the boy’s father, said.

“We had no idea if he was going to make it through or not. That was very difficult to come to terms with.”

As the X-ray of the teen’s lungs revealed, the organ was entirely blocked, much to the surprise of doctors who weren’t able to identify the cause of the blockage.

Nevertheless, answers started popping up after a family member revealed Tryston commonly vaped.

“The lightbulb started coming on. It started making sense why we weren’t finding anything else,” Matt added.

Soon enough, the doctors concluded that the substances in the boy’s vaping device caused his lungs to inflate to such a level they became inoperative and unable to exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen.

As the doctors added according to CBS, Tryston’s lungs were left with major scarring to remind him of the ordeal.

The incident follows after the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed they are investigating over 150 cases in which vaping allegedly caused lung collapse or resulted in severe lung diseases.
