A man who bought an M&S sandwich wrap for lunch discovered an unexpected and a rather unsavory side dish with his meal: a huge live moth that was still moving around the sealed package.
Cameron Meakin bought a hoisin duck wrap at the Marks and Spencers branch in Warrington, Cheshire, for lunch on Monday (July 15, 2019). However, it was only after he left that he made the horrifying discovery.
Cameron even managed to take a video of the huge moth even fluttering its wings inside the sealed package and even crawling across the tortilla wrap.
The 20-year-old barber from Warrington said: “At first it knocked me sick – the fact that it was still alive and scurrying about is what confused me the most.
“I had to lock the wrap away in a cupboard for a bit because I didn’t want to look at it.
“I went to Sainsbury’s to get something else to have for lunch but I couldn’t bring myself to eat that either, the moth put me off food for the rest of the day.”
The social media reaction to Cameron’s shared video reflected the same disgust that he felt when he first saw the critter. However, there were those who thought that Cameron just staged the whole thing.
While Cameron might have lost his appetite, it appears his mom didn’t lose her sense of humor, saying the moth could have added some extra protein to his meal.
Cameron immediately shot off a Facebook message to M&S to lodge a complaint. The company then requested him to return the sandwich to the store.
An employee then placed the wrap in a bag and sent it off for inspection, classifying it as a ‘foreign body found in food.’
Cameron said: “I just want to know how it got in there.
“I think M&S need to put some precautions in place and I’m worried about how safe the rest of their food is.”
An M&S spokesman said in a statement: “We are really sorry to hear about Mr. Meakin’s complaint.
“We are currently investigating with our suppliers and our customer services team are in touch with Mr. Meakin.”
