An 18-year-old man, who police reported had been secretly living in a family’s attic, had been visiting the 14-year-old girl’s room at night.
Matthew Castro has been arrested when the teen’s mother returned home and found a stranger looking down at her from the top of the stairs, according to Fox 17 Nashville.
The mother asked the stranger to leave but he immediately ran into her daughter’s room and into the attic.
She quickly called the police who had to enter the attic to arrest Castro from the family’s home.
After further investigation, it was discovered that Castro had been staying in the attic and visiting the teen’s room at night through a closet.
According to the arrest affidavit, Castro and the girl had previously tried to run away together but he was warned to stay away from the girl.
Police said that “after an extensive search of the home, he was found hiding in an attic.”
Mr. Juliet Police Department wrote on Facebook: “#HappeningNow on Karen Drive- 18-year-old Matthew Casto of Nashville was arrested by officers after violating a protection order, trespassing, & unlawfully entering a home.
“He was arrested on 6/2/19 for similar charges at the same home, & was in court today for those charges. Officers were alerted by a vigilant neighbor, who spotted Casto walking towards the home today. After an extensive search of the home, he was found hiding in an attic.
“An electronic control device was deployed to take him into custody due to him resisting arrest.”
Castro, who was charged with aggravated criminal trespassing, was arrested again for unlawfully entering a home, violating a protection order, and trespassing.
