With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, no love story beats the story of a 25-year-old Japanese man who was dating a cockroach for one year.
Shinohara Yuta is a passionate entomophagist, a person who eats insects. Not only does he enjoy eating insects, but he also prepares special dishes out of them and sells them at his shop.
One day, however, Shinohara fell in love with a cockroach and started dating ‘her’. While his relationship with Lisa the cockroach was a true blessing, all love stories, eventually, come to an end.
After one year of dating, Lisa has died. Rather than burying her remains, Yuta decided to eat his late love so that the two could merge into one. “So now Lisa lives in my heart and continues living as part of my body,” Shinohara said in an interview.
Speaking of his unconventional relationship, the 25-year-old admitted that Lisa was his “first love.” The man also admitted that while their relationship was purely platonic, he often fantasized about having sex with his beloved cockroach.
As Yuta explained, he would imagine himself in a tiny form or Lisa as a human-sized cockroach. So romantic.
In regards to his work and lifestyle decisions, Yuta went on to explain that he prefers to eat insects over other animal meats.
The 25-year-old Japanese also clarified that one can create a wide variety of flavors from cooking different types of insects such as bugs and caterpillars, for example.
In case all this talking of insects got you thinking of your ex, you’ll be thrilled to know that Hemsley Conservation Centre is now giving you the option to name one of their cockroaches after your ex for only $2.
After naming a cockroach of your choice (the one that resembles your ex the most), the Conservation Centre will proudly display the name on the exhibit and you will always be able to visit the insect-version of your ex in person if you live close by.
Additionally, Hemsley will send you a gift certificate after naming a cockroach. While they decided to keep the name off of the certificate to avoid fueling a fire, they did leave a comment section on the certificate for your convenience.
