A man has shared a touching note handwritten by his late wife of over 60 years after he came across it while going through their checkbook.
Jimmy Breland had been married to Billie for more than six decades. Sadly, however, the 83-year-old wife passed away in 2015.
Shortly after his wife’s passing, Mr. Breland discovered the note that his wife had hidden in their checkbook.
“Please don’t cry because I died! Smile because I lived! Know that I’m in a happy place! Know that we will meet again! I’ll see you there!” the note read.
The story went viral after journalist Cliff Sims, the grandson of the couple decided to share it with the world.
After posting pictures of the couple on Facebook and presenting their love story, Jimmy and Billie instantly attracted thousands of likes and shares.
“My Mimi passed away this week, but left this in her checkbook for my Grandaddy to find,” Sims wrote. “They were married over 60 years. Wow.”
“So Sorry For Your Loss But what an Awesome and Amazing Lady she was and That kind of Love That her and Him had you just know it was just One of a kind!! prayer’s for your family and Love One’s!” one person expressed on Facebook.
“Married 60 years and happy in love! Don’t mourn think of what they had most people never have! Every love story doesn’t have a happy ending, but the note makes this one!” another one added.
One person shared: “My husband passed away 11 days ago. And I know that the best day I’ll have is seeing him in heaven. I want to be with him so bad I just such. We were just married 40 years in Sept.”
