An anonymous businessman has offered a $25,000 reward for a stolen phone that contains photos of a couple’s late child.
Dee Windross from Melbourne, Australia, had her device stolen from a toilet in Chadstone Shopping Center last month.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 contained her and husband Jay’s only pictures of their daughter Amiyah, who passed away from an undiagnosed brain condition.
The couple shared a heartbreaking post seeking help to find the device. A mystery man has offered $25,000 to be used as a reward for the person who returns it.
The anonymous person made the donation with his wife but they did not reveal their names, according to Herald Sun.
“Our son was cared for in the Monash Children’s Hospital Paediatric ICU a few years back in an induced coma and things were touch and go,” they said.
“We have always been endlessly grateful that our son made a full recovery.
“We wanted to make a significant personal offer for the safe return of the photos to help encourage the safe return of the images.
“The important thing is Amiyah’s memory and her irreplaceable photos.”
Ms. Windross accidentally left her phone in a cubicle and when she ran back to get it, it was already gone.
Her husband wrote on Facebook: “Someone has picked up Dee’s phone from a toilet next door to Target in Chadstone around 5:30pm.
“It is a Samsung Galaxy S8 with a purple cover. Our 11-month-old daughter is currently deteriorating in ICU and is in her last days with us and this phone holds all our memories of her.
“We understand that you have either found a new phone to use, or you can sell it to make money, but please understand that this means more than money to us.”
He added: “No questions asked. No grudge held. We beg you as grieving parents not to wipe the phone. This phone holds the memories of what little life our daughter has had.”
