An NHS nurse was left stunned when a total stranger slipped £50 ($62) into her trolley in a bid to thank the wonderful job she and other medics have been doing.

Twenty-four-year Isobelle Smithson said she’s already feeling guilty because she had jumped the queue at the Aldi store by using her NHS card.

The man overheard the nurse while she was chatting with other people in the line.

He approached her and placed one £10 and two £20 notes in her trolley, ignoring all the protesting remarks made by the Isobelle.

“People are really behind the NHS and that’s making such a massive difference,” she told The Sun.

“We all work together — we’re like a family. When it gets hard we just pull together and support one another. To know the public are behind us is overwhelming.”

“I jumped out of my skin and said, ‘Yes, why what’s wrong?’ He handed me £50 and said please use this for your shopping.

“I said I couldn’t take it but he put it down in my trolley and began to walk away and said, ‘No, it’s from me and my wife, thank you for what you do’.”

Thanks to the power of social media, Isobelle was able to track down the generous man. The man, 30-year-old Luke Welsh, is a primary school headteacher.

Luke, who’s taking care of key workers’ children at his Wakefield school, said he’s “doing my bit but I’m not doing anything near what Isobelle is doing. They’re all incredible.”
