A video of police officers confronting a black man who was picking up trash outside his own house is going viral on the Internet.
The man named Zayd, a model with Model Management Group (MMG), was detained by police because they didn’t believe he was allowed to be there.
Police in Boulder, Colorado launched an investigation after the video went viral and received backlash.
The officer saw a man sitting in a partially enclosed patio area behind a private property sign and asked him if he was allowed to be there.
The man said he lived there and showed his school identity card.
However, the officer detained the man to investigate further.
The video, which was posted online, shows the officers confronting Zayd who was picking up trash while he trying to explain he doesn’t have a weapon.
“You’re on my property with a gun in your hand, threatening to shoot me, because I’m picking up trash. I don’t have a weapon. This is a bucket. This is a clamp” he says in the video.
“I’m not sitting down. I’m not sitting down, and you can’t make me.”
Police Chief Greg Testa said:
“All aspects of this incident, specifically the actions of the initial officer are being investigated,”
The officer who confronted the man has been put on administrative leave.
