The incident occurred in Crouch End, London, where a prankster, presumably a man, took to the streets wearing a plague doctor outfit that was commonly used during the plague in the 17th century.

According to the local reports, the trickster was “walking along, tipping his hat to people” and even visited a supermarket.

“My girlfriend bumped into him. He was just stood by the melons at the newsagent’s. It was a little bit of a shock,” Chloe McLaren said in an interview with Ham&High.

Previously, the police had been on the search for another person walking around in a plague doctor costume after worried residents of the village of Hellesdon in England reported the sighting to the authorities.

“It was like 20 degrees, he was wearing a full black suit, it just looked ridiculous. It’s clearly for attention or something like that, because normal people just wouldn’t do that,” a resident named Jade Gosbell said in an interview with Press Association.

After sharing the video, the mum also suggested the sinister-looking person could easily frighten children or people who are afraid of masks.

“I was sitting there and I was getting angry myself as my mum has a phobia of masks. I know that even in daylight if she was to go round the corner and bump into him she would be so scared,” Gosbell added.

“Kids would be frightened, my mum would be frightened, however, some people really don’t think it’s that deep, they just think that he’s having a laugh, he’s just trying to find something to do with himself during isolation and lockdown.”

As the police confirmed after the incident, the person hasn’t committed any offenses by walking around in the bizarre outfit. Nevertheless, they were determined to make them know “about the implications of his actions on the local community.”

After identifying the person, who turned out to be a teenager, the police spoke to him and provided him with advice.

“The individual has been spoken to about the consequences his actions may have on some people in the local community and was given words of advice as a result,” the police spokesperson said in an interview with Eastern Daily Press.
