Pavao Anic wasn’t born blind but while he was a new-born, he was given too much oxygen while being incubated which resulted in him losing his sight. Still, the 22-year-old hasn’t let his blindness stop him from enjoying video games.
His love for playing started when he heard his uncles playing computer games when he was a child. This experience led to his own love of combat games such as Mortal Kombat.
Pavao, from Moscenica, Croatia, said: “Fighting games are my favorite because I can play them alone, I don’t need anybody’s help.
“I have more losses, but I don’t care, I just play for fun. Meeting new people, talking to new people, even teaching people how to play the game.”
“When I started playing, I thought I would be a complete failure due to my lack of sight, but I have proven myself wrong as a lot of people have told me I help them.”
Pavao has already engaged in over 2,000 matches in Mortal Kombat as well as playing online games.
He said: “I ask people have they ever tried to play the game without looking, and obviously their answer is ‘no I haven’t.’
“When I win, some people call me a cheater or liar.
“But I just play patiently and try to capitalize on their mistakes.
“I played Mario from an early age and was pretty good.
“I listen to everything and I try to adapt. I create my offense and defense from sounds.
“The sounds have always been the primary thing that I have focused on.”
Pavao not only amazes on the console as he also plays the piano and accordion, skills that he picked up since he was three.
He said: “I’m not sad or sore about it, because I cannot fix it, I just have to live with that, and I do, I’m used to it.
“That is why I love music and have played since I was three.”
