Gerbitz decided to propose Maddie at the Pabst Farms YMCA in front of his family.
He bought a beautiful diamond ring and got down on one knee in the middle of the class.
“Maddie, I want to tell you something. I know I love you very much. But I want you to be in my life. Would you marry me please?” he said.
She said yes and they hugged with tears in their eyes.
Their family was present there and they filmed the touching moment. The video has since gone viral and everyone is loving the sweet proposal.
“I was shocked. He surprised me by getting down on one knee. I love him and I was really happy” Maddie told Special Olympics Wisconsin.
“I was a little nervous, but it’s okay. All that matters is she’s in my life right now” Gerbitz said.
“I can’t keep my eyes off of him. I love him very much” Maddie said.
The couple is set to tie the knot in summer 2020.
“They always say to each other, ‘I can’t take my eyes off of you,’, This is just the beginning of their love story,” Maddie’s mother said.
