A gay man who recently tied the knot with his boyfriend has spoken out and claimed he can be Muslim and love his male partner at the same time.

26-year-old Jared Choudhury from Walsall, UK, married the love of his life, 22-year-old Sean Rogan, in a ceremony that took place two years ago.

After the man claimed he was a gay Muslim, however, the pair was forced to end the service prematurely because they received worrisome threats from the local Muslim community.

“If the community found out that Sean and I were getting married, there would have been a lot of hate going on that day,” Jared, who had been struggling with identity issues for years, admitted in an interview with Barcroft TV.

“It was hard because I really did want them there. Because of the community, it was really difficult for them to attend.

“The disapproval did question why I should get married. A few days before the wedding, I actually did have thoughts, like am I doing that right thing?”

As the 26-year-old went on to explain, he had a tough childhood thanks to his sexual orientation.

“My whole childhood was traumatized because of the reaction I got from my parents. For 15 years the only thing I could do to wipe it away from my head was try to distract myself with school,” Jared said.

“I just thought, I’m a bad person this is the devil in my mind. That’s how I used to describe it when I was young, this is the devil in my mind.”

Everything changed, however, when Sean walked into his life and Jared finally had someone who understood him and supported him.

“He didn’t speak to me for five minutes, but I was like it’s fine. I asked him if he was okay. He told me he tried to end his life which was really emotional,” Sean added.

“My heart sunk. I felt like crying myself because it’s sad to go through something like that by yourself with no support. I just kept speaking to him and felt he needed cheering up, so I said, ‘let’s go to the cinema.’”

While there seems to be no end to judgment and threats, Sean and Jared remain determined to stay together and renew their vows in front of their complete families.

“As soon as people found out that I’m gay and with a white man, that’s when the judgment started. People went to my parents’ house saying, ‘get him out from here, he does not belong here, get him out from our community,’” Jared said.

“People will never accept I’m gay and I’m Muslim. They can’t accept that I am both.”
