A senior man from Colorado was arrested after robbing a bank and throwing stolen money into the air while shouting “Merry Christmas.
”
The incident occurred in Colorado Springs where 65-year-old David Wayne Oliver robbed a bank by threatening to use a weapon before taking off to a nearby Starbucks and throwing the stolen money around.
As Mr. Oliver was waiting for the police to arrive and arrest him, he was allegedly throwing the money all around and shouting “Merry Christmas.”
“He robbed the bank, came out, threw the money all over the place,” one witness said in an interview with 11 News.
According to the reports, the man, who was jailed at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center after the Christmas theft, left the bank with a bag of cash after threatening staff with the use of a weapon.
Several witnesses have also claimed that the man shared festive greetings with them as he was throwing the stolen money all around the place.
While some of the money stolen was instantly taken back to the bank following Oliver’s arrest, plenty of it is still missing.
As the manager of the Starbucks branch where Oliver was spreading the festive ‘joy’ confirmed in an interview with Denver Post, the thief simply waited there for the police to arrive and take him away.
“On Monday, December 23, 2019, at 12:27pm, a bank was robbed near the intersection of East Pikes Peak Avenue and South Tejon Street,” the official police record reads.
“An older white male threatened the use of a weapon and left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was found sitting in front of a nearby coffee shop and was taken into custody without incident by responding patrol officers.
“Detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Department Robbery Unit responded and assisted with the investigation.”
