An 89-year-old man, who lives alone, eats at the same table at the College Station IHOP for the past 34 years.
Jack Worbington from Bryan, Texas, sometimes visits IHOP three times a day.
Worbington told KBTX that he started eating at IHOP at the same table after he retired from the Bryan post office in Feb. 1985.
“I came up here and had coffee and read the paper and I just happened to sit at table 12. This is table 12 and I’ve been here nearly every day since,” he said.
Worbington said the employees of IHOP are now a family for him. One of the IHOP employees, Shawn Hardy said:
“He’s like a breath of fresh air,” while waitress Patricia Brown said: “It means a lot to each and every one of us when he comes.”
He tells the staff at IHOP to put a plaque on Table 12 that reads, “Mr. Jack’s Table.”
“I might lose my driver’s license or be in assisted living or nursing home anytime, so I come up here as much as I can,” he said.
He told that he has also written his obituary. He said:
“They don’t know if I’m Jack Spratt or Jack Frost or Jack Smith anyway, so since I live by myself I have my obituary pretty well written up at the funeral so I got it ‘Jack (“Mr. Jack”) Worbington’ so if somebody up here sees it, they know that I croaked. Until then, I’ll be here.”
